  1. 12 slices firm whole wheat bread

  2. 8 slices smoked ham

  3. 8 slices sharp Gruyere or Swiss cheese

  4. 3 eggs, beaten

  5. 1/2 cup milk

  6. 2 Tbsp. sharp shredded cheddar

  7. 2 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese

  8. pinch nutmeg

  9. butter

  1. Make triple-decker club sandwiches out of the wheat bread, ham and cheese slices. Mix eggs, milk, shredded cheddar, Parmesan and nutmeg to make a batter. Preheat a griddle or sautÈ pan with butter. Dip sandwiches in batter and cook on the griddle or sautÈ pan turning occasionally until the sandwiches are light brown and the cheese has softened. Sandwiches may also be baked after they are lightly browned to further melt cheese inside sandwiches.
