  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour

  2. 1 cup sugar

  3. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  4. 1 teaspoon ground cloves

  5. 1 cup buttermilk

  6. 1 egg

  7. 1/2 cup butter, melted

  8. 1/2 cup dried cranberries

  9. 1/2 cup chopped walnuts CARDAMOM BUTTER:

  10. 1/2 cup butter, softened

  11. 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar

  12. 1 teaspoon ground cardamom

  1. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Stir in the buttermilk, egg, butter, cranberries and nuts just until moistened. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups three-fourths full. Bake at 400° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing to wire racks. Combine cardamom butter ingredients; serve with muffins. Yield: 14 muffins (about 3/4 cup butter).
