  1. 1/2 cup sugar

  2. 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

  3. 3/4 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped,

  4. 1/4 cup reserved

  5. 4 cups tart apples, thinly sliced and cored

  6. 1 cup flour

  7. 1 cup sugar

  8. 1 tsp. baking powder

  9. 1/4 tsp. salt

  10. 1 well beaten egg

  11. 1/2 cup evaporated milk (do not use condensed milk)

  12. 1/3 cup butter, melted

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a small bowl, mix one-half cup sugar, the cinnamon and one-half cup walnuts. Place apples in bottom of greased (or sprayed) 9-inch round ovenware or cake pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon mixture. Sift together dry ingredients. Combine egg, milk and butter, add dry ingredients, all at once, and mix until smooth. Pour over apples; sprinkle with remaining walnuts. Bake for 50 minutes or until done. Cut into wedges. Serve with cinnamon-topped whipped cream or low-fat cream substitute.
