  1. 3 cups sifted flour

  2. 2 tablespoons baking powder

  3. 1 tablespoon sugar

  4. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  5. 2 tablespoons minced chives

  6. 1 cup butter

  7. 3/4 cup buttermilk

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, baking soda, and chives. Mix well. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in the buttermilk and knead lightly on a floured board. Press on a buttered baking sheet into a 4 by 6 inch rectangle. Cut into squares but do not separate. Bake about 20 minutes, or until risen and golden. Serve immediately, or freeze as soon as cool. As with any baking powder biscuit, you must handle the dough gently.
