  1. 1 c Butter; softened

  2. 1 c Sugar

  3. 1 Egg

  4. 2 ts Almond extract

  5. 2 1/2 c Flour

  6. 1 ts Baking powder

  7. 2 tb Orange juice

  8. Glaze and decorations: 1/4 c Light corn syrup

  9. 2 ts Water

  10. 2 hours. Preheat oven to

  11. 400 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough,

  12. 1/3 at a time, to

  13. 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with

  14. 3 to 4-inch bird-shaped cookie cutters. Place

  15. 1" apart on lightly greased baking sheet. In a small bowl, stir together corn syrup and water; lightly brush mixture over cookies. Arrange sliced almonds to resemble wing and tail feathers. Bake for 6-9 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned. Cool

  16. 1 minute; transfer to cooling rack. While still warm, brush with corn syrup mixture. Sprinkle with sugar. Makes
