  5. 1 1/2 c Firmly-packed brown sugar

  6. 2/3 c Golden crisco shortening

  7. 1 tb Water

  8. 1 ts Vanilla

  9. 2 Eggs

  10. 1 1/2 c All-purpose flour

  11. 1/3 c Cocoa

  12. 1/4 ts Baking soda

  13. 1/2 ts Salt

  14. 2 c Semi-sweet chocolate chips

  15. miniature

  16. 1/2 c Whipping cream

  17. 8 oz Semi-sweet chocolate;

  18. -chopped

  19. 48 Red candied cherries

  20. (or maraschino cherries patted dry on paper towels)

  21. 1. Preheat oven to 375F (190C). Place sheets of foil on

  22. countertop for cooling cookies.

  23. 2. Combine brown sugar, shortening, water and vanilla in

  24. large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until

  25. well blended. Beat eggs into creamed mixture.

  26. 3. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Mix into creamed mixture on low speed just until blended. Stir in

  27. chocolate chips.

  28. 4. Press dough onto sides, but not bottom of ungreased

  29. miniature muffin pans.

  30. 5. Bake two muffin pans at a time at 375F (190C) for 7

  31. to 9 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE. Press a dowel into the

  32. centre of each warm cup to make an indentation. Cool 10

  33. minutes in muffin tin. Remove cups to foil to cool

  34. completely.

  35. 6. Heat cream in small saucepan over low heat just until

  36. hot. Add chopped chocolate. Stir until chocolate is

  37. completely melted and mixture is smooth and shiny. Cool

  38. mixture until thickened. Drop 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) of

  39. mixture into each cup. Place 1 cherry on top of chocolate.

  40. Cool until set. About 4 dozen cups --
