  2. VANILLA-NUTMEG POUND CAKE

  7. 2 ts Baking soda

  8. 1 t Salt

  9. 1 t Ground nutmeg

  10. 1 c Unsalted butter -- softened

  11. 2 c Granulated sugar

  12. 2 Eggs

  13. 1 tb Vanilla extract

  14. 2 c Buttermilk or sour cream

  15. Confectioner's sugar

  19. 1. Butter and flour a 12-cup tube pan. Preheat oven to

  20. 350 degrees F. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg together.

  21. 2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add

  22. eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg is

  23. added. Stir in vanilla.

  24. 3. Stir half of the sifted flour mixture into the

  25. butter-sugar mixture. Add 1 cup of the buttermilk. Add

  26. the other half of the flour mixture, then the

  27. remaining buttermilk.

  28. 4. Pour batter into prepared tube pan and bake until a

  29. wooden skewer inserted 2 inches from edge comes out

  30. 1 hour and 5 minutes

  31. 10 to 15 minutes; invert onto a cooling rack, remove

  32. pan, and cool completely before serving. Transfer to a

  33. serving plate. Dust with confectioners' sugar. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
