  1. 12 Corn tortillas

  2. Oil - for deep frying

  3. 1/2 lb 227g / 8oz Chorizo sausage

  4. 1/2 lb 227g / 8oz Lean ground beef

  5. 1 lb 454g / 16oz Onion - chopped (large)

  6. 32 oz 909g Refried beans - - (2 cans)

  7. 4 oz 113g Green chiles - - (1 can), chopped

  8. 12 oz 340g Monterey jack cheese - grated

  9. 3/4 cup 177ml Bottled taco sauce

  10. 1/4 cup 15g / 1/2oz Chopped green onions

  11. 1 Avocado - peeled, pitted and mashed

  12. 1 cup 237ml Sour cream

  1. Cut tortillas into wedges. Fry in hot oil until crisp. Drain on paper towels and salt to taste. Remove casing from sausage and crumble into skillet. Sautee sausage, ground beef and onion until meat is well cooked. Pour off grease and add salt to taste. On a 10- x 15-inch baking dish or large ovenproof platter, spread refried beans and top evenly with meat mixture. Cover with chiles. Sprinkle with grated cheese. Drizzle taco sauce over cheese. (This may be covered and refrigerated at this point for later use.)

  2. Bake uncovered at 400F for 20 to 25 minutes or until hot. Remove from oven, sprinkle with green onions. Put a mound of mashed avocado in the center, and put dollops of sour cream over all. Place fried tortilla pieces around edges of platter and serve. Keep appetizer warm over a warming tray. This may be served as an appetizer for about 12 people. It may also be a casual main dish for 4 to 6 people.
