  3. 1 cup light brown sugar

  4. 1 teaspoon salt

  5. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  6. 1/4 teaspoon allspice

  7. 1/4 teaspoon cloves

  8. 1 egg

  9. 2 cups all-purpose flour

  10. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  11. 1/4 cup milk

  12. 2 golden delicious apples

  14. 1 tablespoon butter -- melted

  15. 1 cup confectioners' sugar -- sifted

  16. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  17. 4 teaspoons milk -- up to

  2. Makes about 5 dozen cookies1. Cream together shortening and sugar; beat in salt, cinnamon, allspice, cloves and egg.

  3. Stir in flour, baking soda and milk.

  4. Core and finely chop apples to equal 2 cups; stir into dough.

  5. Drop by small spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets; bake in preheated 400 F. oven 10 to 12 minutes.

  6. Cool on wire rack; frost with Vanilla Glaze or dust with confectioners' sugar.

  7. Vanilla Glaze1. Combine butter and sugar; stir in vanilla extract.

  8. Add milk, mixing until smooth and of desired consiste
