  2. CARAMEL BROWNIES

  6. 14 oz Caramels

  7. 1/3 c Evaporated milk

  8. 8 oz German sweet chocolate

  9. 6 T Butter

  10. 4 ea Eggs

  11. 1 c Sugar

  12. 1 c Flour (sifted)

  13. 1 t Baking powder

  14. 1/2 t Salt

  15. 2 t Vanilla

  16. 6 oz Chocolate chips

  17. 1 c Chopped walnuts

  18. 1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 baking pan. Combine

  19. caramels and evaporated milk in top of double boiler over low heat. Cover

  20. and simmer until caramels are melted, stirring occasionally. Set aside,

  21. keeping warm.

  22. 2. Combine German sweet chocolate and butter in 2 quart saucepan. Place

  23. over low heat stirring occasionally until melted. Remove from heat. Cool

  24. to room temperature.

  25. 3. Beat eggs until foamy using electric mixer at high speed. Gradually

  26. add sugar, beating until mixture is thick and lemon colored.

  27. 4. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture

  28. mixing well. Blend in cooled chocolate mixture and vanilla.

  29. 5. Spread half of mixture into prepared baking pan. Bake for 6 minutes.

  30. Remove from oven and spread caramel mixture carefully over baked layer.

  31. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

  32. 6. Stir 1/2 cup of walnuts into remaining chocolate batter. Spread

  33. batter by spoonfuls over the caramel layer. Sprinkle with remaining nuts.

  34. 7. Bake for 20 minutes. Cool in pan on rack. Refridgerate before

  35. cutting into bars or squares. These brownies are very difficult to cut if

  36. not chilled first.
