  1. 1/2 cup 99g / 3 1/2oz Butter or margarine

  2. 1 1/2 cups 355ml -- ¥

  3. 1 And H golden brown sugar - firmly packed

  4. 2 Eggs

  5. 1/2 cup 73g / 2.6oz Cooked pitted prunes - chopped

  6. 1 1/2 cups 93g / 3 1/3oz All-purpose flour

  7. 1 teaspoon 5ml Baking soda

  8. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Salt

  9. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Cinnamon

  10. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Nutmeg

  11. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Allspice

  12. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Cloves

  13. 2/3 cup 157ml Buttermilk

  14. 1/2 cup 73g / 2.6oz Walnuts - chopped

  1. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Stir in prunes.

  2. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and spices and add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.

  3. Stir in walnuts. Pour into greased and floured 9-inch square pan.

  4. Bake in 350F oven 40 to 45 minutes or until cake tests done.

  5. Cool on rack. Cut into 9 squares.

  6. Serve with a dollop of sour cream or whipped cream. Top with brown sugar.
