  1. 1 cup butter

  2. 6 egg s separated

  3. 1 1/2 cups flour

  4. 2 cups sugar

  5. 2 tsp baking powder

  6. 1/2 tsp salt

  7. 6 tbs milk

  8. 1 tsp vanilla or 1/2 tsp almond extract or 2 tsp grated lemon rind

  1. Cream butter to consistency of mayonnaise.

  2. Add sugar slowly while continuing to cream.

  3. Beat until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in egg yolks one at a time Mix and sift flour, salt, and baking powder.

  5. Combine milk and flavoring.

  6. Add flour mixture and milk alternately to butter mixture, stirring in gently but thoroughly.

  7. Spoon into well greased 12 cup gugelhopf pan (Turk’s head mold)

  8. Bake at 350 for about 1 hour and 10 min or until cake tests done.

  9. Cool in pan 10 min.

  10. Invert cake on rack. Finish cooling.

  11. Dust with confectioner’s sugar.

  12. Garnish with whole maraschino cherries if desired.
