  1. 1 pkg. active dry yeast

  2. 1/2 cup plus 1 tbsp. warm water, divided

  3. 1 cup milk

  4. 1/2 cup butter

  5. 1/2 cup sugar

  6. 1/2 cup brown sugar

  7. 1/2 tsp. salt

  8. 7 to 8 cups all-purpose flour, divided

  9. 5 eggs, divided

  10. 1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water; set aside.

  11. 2. In a saucepan, combine milk, butter, sugars and salt; heat until warm, approximately 110 F. Remove from heat, place in a large mixing bowl and blend in yeast mixture. Stir in 5 cups of flour and mix well.

  12. 3. Lightly beat 4 eggs and add to dough; mixture will be sticky. Set aside to let rise until double in bulk.

  13. 4. Knead dough, adding enough remaining flour until dough is elastic and no longer sticky. Form into 2 round loaves and place in greased pie or round cake pans. Let rise again until double in bulk.

  14. 5. Combine remaining egg and one TBS of water; beat well and brush over risen loaves. Bake at 350 F for 40 to 50 minutes. Yield: 2 loaves.
