  1. 4 cups sifted all- purpose flour

  2. 2 tbsps. baking powder

  3. 2 tsps. salt

  4. 1/2 tsp. baking soda

  5. 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

  6. 1 1/2 cup buttermilk

  7. 1 tsp. vanilla

  8. 1 stick butter

  9. 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  10. Cinnamon

  11. Milk

  12. Chopped Walnuts

  1. Sift together dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. Combine buttermilk and vanilla. Mix togeter applesauce and buttermilk with dry ingredients- stir till just combined.

  3. Preheat oven to 400° F. Knead dough on floured board until smooth. Divide dough into two equal halves.

  4. Roll each half into a 15x8 inch rectangle. Smooth half of the stick of butter on dough. Sprinkle cinnamon onto butter. Combine sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon in a bowl. Sprinkle half of mixture over rectangle.

  5. Roll up dough, jelly roll fashion. Pinch seam to seal. Cut the roll into 1½ in. slices. Arrange slices cut side up in a large, greased baking pan. Repeat with all steps with other half of dough.

  6. Melt a small bit of butter and pour over top of buns. Sprinkle any remaining sugar mixture on top. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and pour milk over top, if desired. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
