  1. 3 c Rolled oats; not instant

  2. 3 c Flour, all purpose;sifted

  3. 1 c Brown sugar

  4. 1 ts Baking soda

  5. 2 ts -Salt

  6. 1 1/2 c Shortening

  7. 3/4 c -Cold water, up to

  8. 3/4 cup

  1. Combine oats, flour, sugar, soda and salt.

  2. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture is crumbly.

  3. Using a fork, gradually add enough water for moisture to form a ball.

  4. Roll out 1/4" thick on a lightly floured board.

  5. Cut into circles and place on greased baking sheet.

  6. Bake at 350F for 15 minutes.

  7. Yield about 4 dozen, depending on spoon size.
