  1. 2 large onion s

  2. 4 Tablespoons butter

  3. 1 tablespoon flour

  4. 4 cups chicken stock

  5. 4 thin slices french bread

  6. 4 thin slices gruyere cheese

  7. salt and pepper (white) to taste

  1. slice onions very thin (you should be able to see thru them)

  2. Saute in pot with 3 tablespoons butter. cook slowly until onions are golden but not brown. Dust with flour and stir until flour has browned. Add chicken stock, salt and pepper. cook on low covered 15 minutes. Put in soup plate 1 slice butter bread and 1 slice cheese. Pour soup in. Put in preheated stove for a minute or until cheese melts and toasts on top. Serve immediately
