  2. 1/2 cup sugar

  3. 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  1. Shortbread Cutouts Recipe photo by Taste of Home In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour and mix well. Divide dough in half.

  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each portion to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut with 2-in. to 3-in. floured cookie cutters.

  3. Place 1 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugar if desired. Bake at 300° for 20-25 minutes until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool. Yield: about 2 dozen.
