  1. 1 1/2 c Flour

  2. 1 ts Baking powder

  3. 1 ts Ground cinnamon

  4. 1/2 ts Ground cloves

  5. 1/4 ts Salt

  6. 1/2 c Vegetable shortening

  7. 1 cn Sugar

  8. 2 lg Egg

  9. 1 1/2 c Dates; pitted and chopped

  10. 1 c Walnuts

  11. 1 1/2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly colored. Transfer to wire racks to cool. --
