  1. 2 large (1 1/4 pounds each) fennel bulbs

  2. 1 tablespoon(s) olive oil

  3. 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt

  4. 1/4 teaspoon(s) coarsely ground black pepper

  1. Prepare outdoor grill for covered, direct grilling on medium.

  2. Trim tops from fennel bulbs. Cut each bulb into 8 wedges; place in microwave-safe large bowl. Cover with vented plastic wrap. Microwave on High 5 minutes. Drain liquid from bowl. (Fennel can be microwaved up to 1 day ahead and refrigerated.)

  3. In same bowl, toss fennel with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place fennel on hot grill grate. Cover grill and cook fennel 10 minutes or until lightly charred and tender, turning over once. (This recipe can be doubled easily.)
