  2. 7 eggs, separated

  3. 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

  4. 1 cup flour

  5. 1/4 cup cornstarch

  6. 2 teaspoons baking powder

  7. Pinch of salt

  8. Filling :

  9. 1 1/4 cups milk

  10. 1/3 cup flour

  11. 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  12. 1/4 cup cold milk

  13. 1 cup melted butter

  14. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  15. 1 cup confectioners sugar

  16. Chopped nuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Beat whites until frothy.

  3. Add 1/2 cup sugar gradually.

  4. Beat until stiff.

  5. Beat yolks until thick.

  6. Add remaining sugar gradually and beat.

  7. Combine the two mixtures.

  8. Sift the flour with cornstarch, baking powder and salt and fold in carefully.

  9. Pour into 4 greased and floured 8 inch layer cake pans.

  10. Bake about 20 minutes. Cool.

  11. Heat milk in double boiler.

  12. Mix flour, sugar and cold milk.

  13. Add to heated milk and stir until thick.

  14. Cover and cook 15 minutes.

  15. When cool, add melted butter. Mix well.

  16. Add vanilla extract and confectioners sugar.

  17. Spread this between the four layers and on top and sides.

  18. Cover well with chopped nuts.
