  1. 1 Potatoes - boiled and mashed

  2. 1/4 Onion - peeled and chopped

  3. 1 teaspoon 5ml Turmeric

  4. 1 section Curry leaves - cleaned Salt - to taste To Grind

  5. 8 Red chiles - fried

  6. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Asafetida

  7. 1 teaspoon 5ml Coconut - grated (small)

  8. 1 Marble-sized ball of tamarind

  9. 1 section Curry leaves - cleaned For Seasoning

  10. 1 1/2 teaspoons 7 1/2ml Mustard seeds

  11. 2 teaspoons 10ml Black gram dal

  12. 2 Red chiles - broken

  13. 4 tablespoons 60ml Coconut oil

  1. Recipe Instructions Grind together red chiles, asafetida, grated coconut, tamarind and curry leaves to a thick paste adding a little water. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, black gram dal and red chiles. When brown, add onions and turmeric. Fry until onions become golden. Add mashed potatoes, coconut paste, salt, half cup water and curry leaves. Bring to a boil and serve hot.
