  1. 3 1/2 c. flour

  2. 1 tbsp. sugar

  3. 1 pkg. yeast

  4. 2 c. warm water

  5. 2 c. flour

  6. 1 tsp. salt

  1. In large (not metal) bowl combine flour, sugar and yeast. Gradually add warm water. Beat until mixture is smooth. Cover bowl with lid and set in warm place for 24-36 hours. Starter will become bubbly and smell like yeast. Store in refrigerator to keep from fermenting.

  2. Combine 1/2 of starter with flour (2 cups) and salt. Knead for 5 minutes. Makes 2 loaves or rolls. Let rise and bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes.

  3. To replenish starter stir in 1 1/2 cups flour and 1 cup warm water. Beat until smooth, set in warm place 24-36 hours. Repeat process.
