  1. 2 Tbsp pecans

  2. Kosher salt

  3. 1 1/4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

  4. 1 red apple, such as McIntosh or Braeburn, cut into 3/4-in. pieces

  5. 2 tsp brown sugar

  6. Pinch ground cinnamon

  1. Heat oven to 400°F. Place thepecans on a rimmed baking sheet androast until fragrant, 6 to 8 minutes; chop.

  2. Bring 21⁄2 cups of water to a boilin a medium saucepan. Add a pinch ofsalt and stir in the oats. Reduce heat andsimmer, stirring occasionally, until theoats begin to thicken, 3 to 4 minutes.

  3. Add the apple and cook, stirringoccasionally, until the apple is just tenderand the oatmeal has thickened, 1 to 2minutes more.

  4. Sprinkle with the pecans, brownsugar and cinnamon before serving.
