  1. 1 cup shortening

  2. 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar

  3. 2 eggs

  4. 2 tablespoons molasses

  5. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  6. 3 cups quick-cooking oats

  7. 1 cup all-purpose flour

  8. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  9. 3/4 teaspoon salt

  10. 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

  11. 3/4 cup chopped pecans

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in molasses and vanilla. Combine the oats, flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans. Spread in a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 28-32 minutes or until golden brown and edges pull away from sides of pan. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars.
