  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F, gas mark 7). Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl, add the butter and rub it in until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the milk to form a soft dough. Roll out on a floured surface using a 6cm round cutter to make 8 scones. Transfer to a lightly oiled baking tray and brush with egg. Bake for 10 mins until well-risen and golden.
