  7. 1 cup flour -- well sifted

  8. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  9. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  10. 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening

  11. 1/2 cup milk

  12. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture is of corn meal consistency. Add milk; mix lightly until soft dough is formed. Drop from teaspoon into boiling stew. Cover tightly; cook without removing cover for 12 minutes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
