  1. 1 cup uncooked rice

  2. 1/2 cup raisins

  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  4. 2 cups water

  5. 2 tablespoons butter or margarine

  6. 1 1/2 cups milk

  7. 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  8. 1 cinnamon stick*

  1. Combine rice, raisins, salt, water and butter in 2 to 3-quart saucepan. Bring to a boil; stir once or twice. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 15 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.

  2. Heat milk, sugar and cinnamon stick over low heat. Discard cinnamon stick.

  3. Add milk to cooked rice; continue to cook over low heat 5 minutes or until creamy, stirring often.

  4. Serve with milk or cream, honey or brown sugar and fresh fruit, if desired.
