  1. 1/4 cup cornmeal

  2. salt and pepper

  3. 1 teaspoon sugar

  4. 1 egg , beaten

  5. 2 tablespoons water

  6. 4 green tomatoes , sliced about 1/2-inch thick

  7. butter (for frying)

  1. In a bowl, combine cornmeal, salt, pepper and sugar.

  2. In a bowl, mix together the egg and water.

  3. Dip tomatoes slices into egg/water mixture, then both sides into cornmeal mixture.

  4. heat the butter in a pan.

  5. Fry tomato slices until golden, adding more butter if needed.
