  1. 2 cups sliced french beans

  2. 1/4 cup chana dal, soaked for 2 hours

  3. 1 tsp urad dal (split black lentils)

  4. 4 to 6 curry leaves (kadi patta)

  5. 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)

  6. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)

  7. 1/4 cup freshly grated coconut

  8. 1 1/2 tsp oil

  9. salt to taste

  10. For The Garnish

  11. 2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)

  1. Heat the oil and add the urad dal and sauté for a few seconds.

  2. Add the curry leaves and asafoetida.

  3. Add the french beans, bengal gram, turmeric powder, salt and ¼ cup of water, mix well and cover with a lid.

  4. Cook over a medium flame for 10 to 12 minutes.

  5. When the french beans and bengal gram are tender remove the lid mix in the coconut and cook for 2 to 3 more minutes on a high flame so the water dries out.

  6. Serve hot, garnished with the coriander.

  7. You can also use same amount chopped french beans instead of sliced french beans in this recipe.
