  2. 3 pounds of blackberries

  3. 1 cup of water

  4. 1 1/2 pounds of apples

  5. 2 1/2 pounds of sugar

  1. Core the apples and cut in small pieces, without removing the skins.

  2. Mash the berries with a wooden pestle or spoon; add the water and apple and let simmer ten minutes, mashing the fruit occasionally.

  3. Strain through two folds of fine cheesecloth. Let the juice boil, then add the sugar and cook gently for half an hour, stirring occasionally.

  4. Store in jelly glasses.

  5. The apple gives a firmer jelly than the berries alone will give.
