  1. Stained Glass Heart Cookies on a Stick

  2. 1/3 cup butter, softened

  3. 2 Tbsp. canola or olive oil

  4. 3/4 cup sugar

  5. 1 large egg

  6. 2 tsp. vanilla

  7. 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  8. 1 tsp. baking powder

  9. 1/4 tsp. salt

  10. red hard candies or lollipops, crushed

  11. lollipop or popsicle sticks (about 1 1/2 dozen)

  12. In a large bowl, beat butter, oil, and sugar with an electric mixer until well combined. Add egg and vanilla and beat for a minute, until smooth and light.

  13. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the sugar mixture and stir by hand just until you have a soft dough. Shape the dough into a disc, cover and let it sit for about half an hour.

  14. 350 F. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out until it's about 1/4-inch thick. Cut out cookies using a 2-3-inch cookie cutter or glass rim. Reroll the scraps once to get as many cookies as possible. Using a small heart shaped cutter, cut windows in the cookies.

  15. 10-12 minutes, until pale golden around the edges and the candy is melted. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Makes about 3 dozen

  16. 2 3/4" cookies.

  17. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen cookies on a stick.
