  1. 3/4 lb 340g / 11oz Pitted prunes

  2. 1/2 lb 227g / 8oz Dried peaches - apples

  3. Pears

  4. 1/2 cup 80g / 2.8oz Raisins

  5. 1 Lemon - quartered

  6. 1/2 cup 99g / 3 1/2oz Sugar

  7. 1 Whole clove

  8. 1 Cinnamon stick

  1. Fruit compotes are a typical dessert for a Sabbath meat meal.

  2. In a large saucepan, combine fruits, sugar, clove and cinnamon stick with 6 c. water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, cover, lower heat and simmer until tender, 30 to 45 minutes. Remove lemons, clove and cinnamon stick before serving warm or chilled.

  3. Yield: About 8 cups; serves 16.
