  1. In a saucepan, melt butter, treacle, soda and sugar, mixed with boiling water. Bring to a slow boil and add dry ingredients, stirring well. Stir in vanilla. Remove from heat and drop by tablespoons onto a buttered baking sheet. Bake in a 275 degree oven for 25 minutes. Cool on wire racks and store in a tin.
