  1. 2 tablespoons 30ml Vegetable oil

  2. 3/4 cup 46g / 1.6oz Flour

  3. 1 teaspoon 5ml Garlic powder

  4. 1 teaspoon 5ml Paprika

  5. 2 lbs 908g / 32oz Stew beef

  6. 1 Onion - quartered

  7. 1 Garlic clove - minced

  8. 2 cups 474ml Beef broth or bouillon

  9. 1 teaspoon 5ml Salt - or to taste

  10. 1 tablespoon 15ml Lemon juice

  11. 1 teaspoon 5ml Sugar

  12. 1 teaspoon 5ml Worcestershire sauce

  13. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Freshly-ground black pepper

  14. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Paprika

  15. 1 Bay leaf - (to 2)

  16. 1 Allspice -

  17. 6 Carrots - cut in pieces

  18. 6 White potatoes - cut in pieces (medium)

  19. 1/2 cup 118ml Cold water

  20. 1/4 cup 15g / 1/2oz Flour

  1. Combine flour, paprika and garlic powder in a plastic bag. Coat stew beef in flour mixture and brown in hot oil in a large skillet; transfer to the crock pot. Add the remaining ingredients except for 1/2 cup cold water and 1/4 cup flour. Cook on LOW for 9 to 11 hours.

  2. About 30 minutes before serving, mix together the flour and cold water; add to the pot. Turn to HIGH and cook until thickened.

  3. This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.
