  1. 2 cinnamon sticks

  2. 2 whole cloves

  3. 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped ginger

  4. 1 tablespoon anise seeds

  5. some sugar to taste

  6. 4 whole almonds or walnuts for garnish

  1. Combine the spices in a saucepan along with 1 quart of water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil the mixture until the water turns dark. Strain the mixture into a serving pot. Season to taste with sugar.

  2. To serve, add a nut to each cup, pour the drink into the cups, and serve.
