  1. 3/4 cup Crisco

  2. 4 1/2 teaspoons water

  3. 1 1/2 cups sugar

  4. 2 eggs (whipped well)

  5. 3 bananas (very ripe)

  6. 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

  7. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  8. 1 teaspoon salt

  9. 2 cups whole wheat flour

  10. 1/2 cup buttermilk

  11. 1 cup walnuts (crushed)

  12. 1 tablespoon maple syrup

  13. 1 teaspoon nutmeg (freshly grated)

  14. 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the Crisco and sugar until smooth.

  3. Add vanilla and eggs and continue to blend 4 Add salt and baking soda.

  4. Add in mashed bananas and continue to blend while adding buttermilk.

  5. Stir in flour and walnuts and mix thoroughly.

  6. Add maple syrup, nutmeg and cinnamon.

  7. Pour batter into glass loaf pan, leaving about 1/2 inch of space for bread to rise but adding more batter to the center (to get the dome shape).

  8. Place in oven and bake for 1.5 hours.
