  1. 1 Cream style corn

  2. 3/4 cup 177ml Milk

  3. 1/3 cup 65g / 2 1/3oz Melted shortening

  4. 1 1/2 cups 93g / 3 1/3oz Cornmeal

  5. 2 Eggs - slightly beaten

  6. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Soda

  7. 1 teaspoon 5ml Baking powder

  8. 1 teaspoon 5ml Salt

  9. 1 teaspoon 5ml Sugar

  10. 1 1/2 cups 219g / 7.7oz Grated cheese

  11. 1 Green chile - chopped (remove the seeds)

  1. Mix all ingredients. Pour the batter into a greased cast iron skillet. Bake at 400F in oven for 45 minutes, cool slightly, slice like a pie, and serve.

  2. For those who don't want or have the time to prepare from scratch, I have had excellent results by using 2 packages of cornbread mix (the kind in a tear open envelope, not the box) prepared as on the package, then stirring in the cream corn, green chile, and cheese just before pouring it into the skillet. Use the same oven temp and cooking time as described above ( the time indicated on the package needs to be increased because of the added ingredients.
