  1. 2 cups flour

  2. 4 teaspoons baking powder

  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  4. 1 tablespoon shortening

  5. 1/2 cup milk

  6. 1 tablespoon butter

  7. 1 cup brown sugar

  1. Instructions Sift and mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Rub the shortening thoroughly into the mixture. Add slowly enough milk to make a soft dough. Roll out on floured board to a thickness of 1/4 inch. Have butter soft and spread over the dough. Cover with the brown sugar. Cut into 1 1/2 inch squares and place on greased pan. Bake in moderate oven for about 30 minutes. Remove from pan at once.
