  1. 2/3 cup 132g / 4.7oz Shortening

  2. 2/3 cup 132g / 4.7oz Butter or margarine, softened

  3. 1 cup 198g / 7oz Granulated sugar

  4. 1 cup 160g / 5.6oz Packed brown sugar

  5. 2 Eggs

  6. 2 teaspoons 10ml Vanilla extract

  7. 3 1/2 cups 218g / 7.7oz All-purpose flour

  8. 1 teaspoon 5ml Baking soda

  9. 1 teaspoon 5ml Salt

  10. 1 cup 146g / 5.1oz Chopped nuts, if desired

  11. 2 6-oz packages semi-sweet chocolate pieces

  1. Heat oven to 375 F. Mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.

  2. Makes about 7 dozen cookies.
