  5. 1/2 c Flour

  6. 1/2 t Baking powder

  7. 1/4 t Salt

  8. 4 oz Unsweetened chocolate

  9. 3 T Unsalted butter

  10. 2 Eggs

  11. 3/4 c Sugar

  12. 1 t Vanilla

  13. 3/4 c Coarsely chopped walnuts

  14. 4 oz Cream cheese

  15. 2 T Unsalted butter

  16. 1/2 t Vanilla

  17. 1/4 c Sugar

  18. 1 Egg

  20. Butter a 9 square pan. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Melt the chocolate with the butter. Remove from heat

  21. 2 eggs until foamy. Add the

  22. 3/4 cup

  23. sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Continue beating until light

  24. lemon-colored. Beat in the chocolate mixture and then the dry

  25. ingredients. Mix well. Set aside 3/4 cup of the mixture. To the

  26. remainder, stir in 1/2 cup of the nuts. Spread this mixture into the

  27. prepared pan.

  28. Preheat oven to 350'F. Beat the cream cheese with the butter until

  29. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 cup sugar and beat until

  30. fluffy. Beat in the 1 egg. Spread cheese mixture over the chocolate

  31. layer. Place heaping tablespoons of the reserved 3/4 cup chocolate

  32. mixture over the cheese, forming 8 or 9 mounds. With a small spatula

  33. of knife, cut through the mounds in a zigzag layer, going almost but

  34. not quite through the bottom. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup

  35. nuts. Bake for 35 minutes. Let stand at room temperature for a few

  36. hours before cutting.
