  1. 1/2 C. kidney beans

  2. 1/2 C. split yellow peas

  3. 1/2 C. black beans

  4. 1/2 C. red lentils

  5. 1/2 C. small red beans

  6. 1/2 C. split green peas

  7. Layer each type of bean in a 24 oz. clear gift jar.

  8. 1 T. dried sweet pepper flakes

  9. 2 tsp. chicken bouillon granules

  10. 2 tsp. dried minced onion

  11. 1 1/2 tsp. salt

  12. 1 tsp. dried parsley flakes

  13. 1/2 tsp. black pepper

  14. 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

  15. 1/2 tsp. celery seed

  16. 4 T. brown sugar

  17. Combine ingredients. Store in a resealable plastic bag. Attach to jar and give with

  18. 3 cups dried bean mix and 1/4 cup

  19. seasoning mix.

  20. Attach to jar:

  21. SEASONED BEAN SOUP

  22. Dried Bean Mix

  23. 2 (14 1/2 oz.) cans tomatoes

  24. Seasoning Mix

  25. 1 tsp. liquid smoke ( optional )

  26. Rinse beans and place in large Dutch oven or stock pot. Pour 4 cups boiling water

  27. over beans; cover and let soak overnight.

  28. Drain beans and return to stock pot. Add 6 cups water, cover, and bring to a boil

  29. 1 to 1/2 hours or until beans are

  30. almost tender.

  31. Add tomatoes and seasoning mix. Stirring occasionally, cover and simmer 30

  32. minutes. Uncover beans and continue to simmer about 1 hour longer or until

  33. beans are tender and soup thickens. Serve warm. Yields about 10 cups soup.
