  1. 1/4 cup egg whites

  2. 1 1/2 cup sugar

  3. 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

  4. 1/3 cup water

  5. 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  6. 2 drops red food coloring

  7. 2 drops yellow food coloring

  8. 12 baked and cooled cupcakes

  9. 12 black gumdrop candies

  1. Combine egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar and water in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Beat egg white mixture 1 minute. Increase heat on double boiler to medium high and beat mixture an additional 7 minutes on high speed. Remove frosting mixture from over water and add vanilla. Beat another 2 minutes on high speed. Stir in red and yellow food colorings. Frost cupcakes. Cut each gumdrop horizontally into 3 rounds. Use the smallest round for the cat's head, the largest round for the body and cut the ears and tail from the remaining round. Store cupcakes in an airtight container.
