  1. 8 oz smoked sausage links or frankfurters , sliced

  2. 1/2 in. thick

  3. 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped onions

  4. 3/4 cup bottled barbecue sauce

  5. 2 Tbsp pancake syrup

  6. 2 Tbsp water

  7. 1 Tbsp cider vinegar

  8. 1 can (15 to 16 oz) red kidney beans , rinsed

  9. 1 can (15 to 16 oz) pinto beans, rinsed

  10. 1 can (15 to 16 oz) black beans , rinsed

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausage; cook , turning slices once, 3 minutes or until browned . Remove to a bowl.

  2. Add onions to drippings in skillet. Cover and cook 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender and golden.

  3. Add barbecue sauce, syrup, water and vinegar; bring to a boil . Stir in beans and sausage. Heat covered, over medium heat, 15 minutes, stirring often, for flavors to blend. Sprinkle with scallions if desired.
