  1. 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

  2. 1 medium onion, minced

  3. 2 cloves garlic, peeled, crushed

  4. 2 cups tomato ketchup

  5. 1 cup apple cider vinegar

  6. 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

  7. 2 teaspoons salt

  8. 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

  9. 1/2 teaspoon liquid hot pepper sauce, (or to taste)

  1. Heat oil to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat; add onion and garlic and sauté until onion is tender. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and cook for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Remove from the heat, and cool. Use as a basting sauce for grilled meats.
