  1. 40 pods okra

  2. 1/2 cup crushed corn flakes

  3. 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal

  4. 1 Tbsp. flour

  5. 1 Tbsp. salt

  6. 1/4 tsp. ground red pepper

  7. Shortening for deep-frying

  1. CUT okra into 1/4-inch-thick slices; sprinkle with cold water.

  2. MIX corn flake crumbs, cornmeal, flour and seasonings in shallow dish. Add okra; toss lightly to evenly coat with crumb mixture.

  3. DEEP-FRY okra in 1 to 2 inches hot shortening in large skillet or saucepan until golden brown. Serve hot.
