  1. 1 1/2 C. flour

  2. 1/2 C. unsweetened cocoa powder

  3. 1/2 C. butter , softened

  4. 1 C. sugar

  5. 1/4 t. salt

  6. 1/4 t. baking powder

  7. 1/4 t. baking soda

  8. 1 egg

  9. 1 1/2 t. vanilla

  10. 48 maraschino cherries (10-oz. jar)

  11. 1 C. semisweet chocolate pieces

  12. 1/2 C. sweetened condensed milk

  1. Combine flour and cocoa powder in a mixing bowl; set aside. Beat butter in a large mixing bowl wiith an electric mixer on high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, salt, baking powder, and soda; beat until combined. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined. Gradually beat in flour mixture.

  2. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press down center of each ball with thumb. Drain cherries, reserving juice. Place a cherry in the center of each cookie. In a 1 quart saucepan, combine the chocolate pieces and sweetened condensed milk; heat until chocolate is melted. Stir in 4 teaspoons of the cherry juice. Spoon about 1 t. of the frosting over each cherry. Bake in a 350 degree oven about 10 minutes. Cool.
