  7. 1 cup boiling water

  8. 1 1/4 cups dates -- cut in large pieces

  9. 2 teaspoons soda*

  10. 2 cups Pillsbury's Best All Purpose Flour*

  11. 1 teaspoon salt

  12. 1/2 cup Funsten's Nuts -- chopped

  13. 2 tablespoons butter

  14. 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

  15. 2 eggs -- unbeaten

  16. 350 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes. MAKES

  17. 9 x 5-inch loaf.

  18. Pour boiling water over dates and soda. Cool. Sift together flour and salt.

  19. Add nuts, chopped. Blend together the butter and brown sugar or granulated

  20. sugar in mixing bowl. Blend in 2 unbeaten eggs; beat well. Add dry

  21. ingredients alternately with the date mixture, beginning and ending with dry

  22. ingredients. Blend well after each addition. Turn into one 9 x 5 x 3-inch

  24. 2 cans, well greased on the bottom. Bake in moderate oven

  25. 60 to 70 minutes. Cool before slicing.

  26. *For use with Pillsbury's Best Self-Rising Flour, omit soda and salt.
