  1. 1/3 c Milk

  2. 1 ts Lemon juice or vinegar

  3. 1 1/2 c Brown sugar; firmly packed

  4. 3/4 c Vegetable shortening; melted

  5. 1/2 ts Salt

  6. 1 1/2 ts Vanilla

  7. 3 c Uncooked old fashioned oats Or quick cooking oats

  8. 1 1/2 c All-purpose flour

  9. 3/4 ts Baking soda Heat oven to

  10. 1-inch balls.Place 3-inches apart on prepared cookie sheet(s). Dip the bottom of a large drinking glass in water and use it to press each ball to 1/8-inch thickness.

  1. Bake 8-10 minutes until set and lightly browned. Cool on cookie sheet(s) on wire rack 45-60 seconds, just until firm enough to handle, then remove to wire rack to cool completely.
