  1. 1 1/2 pounds beef stew meat, cut in 3/4-inch cubes

  2. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  3. 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10 1/2 ounces)

  4. 1 carrot, shredded

  5. 1/3 cup dry red wine

  6. 1 can (3 to 4 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained

  7. 2 tablespoons dry onion soup mix

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown stew beef in oil. Transfer stew beef to a 2-quart casserole. Combine remaining ingredients; pour over stew beef in casserole. Cover and bake at 350 for 2 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

  2. Oven beef stew serves 6 to 8.
