  1. 4 large peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced

  2. 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar - divided use

  3. 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted

  4. 1 cup all-purpose flour

  5. 2 teaspoons baking powder

  6. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  7. Dash ground nutmeg

  8. 3/4 cup milk

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C).

  2. In a bowl, combine peaches and 3/4 cup of the sugar; set aside.

  3. Pour melted butter into a 8-inch square baking pan; set aside.

  4. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and remaining sugar; stir in milk just until combined. Pour batter over butter and top with the peaches.

  5. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden brown.
